Family secrets
A storytelling-program about important “Why”-questions.
The storytelling programme “Family secrets” deal with the fascinating secrets of Aunt Wu, uncle Boekari and grandfather Felipe. The children, the leading men in the stories, try again and again to pursue the adults to tell al those mysterious stories.
But they refuse constantly. “Time to go to bed! Better luck next time!” But the children insist in their search towards the truth. When in bed they dream about the strange objects and musical instruments from Africa, Asia and South America, because all of them play a role in the stories. Together with the audience reconstruct storyteller Marco Holmer the stories which the family-circle tries to hide.
The program is a mix between storytelling and theatre. The storyteller performs all the characters.
The Program
A fantastic program suitable for children, parents, grandparents and all people who are more than 6 years old. It can be performed in theatres, schools, community centres and libraries. The performance will last about 50 minutes.

In dutch there is only one word for love: Love! In the world of the “Museum of love” however there exist more types of love: The Love which urge a sacrifice , the love you will lose by, the sellfish love, and the love which steam out of the pores.
The program
Cousin Felipe pays, the first time since forty years, a visit to his elderly aunt in the madhouse. While he waits on the bench in the corridor, he tells about the time he stayed with his aunt. He was only ten years old then. It was the visit that revealed the horrible secret of his aunt.
The storytelling program “My aunt Pilar” is based on four special photographs of the well known artist Rommert Boonstra.
The Program
A legend is a true story or a story from which the audience and the storyteller believe that it could have happened. Legends are ful of fantasy and full of tension. Most of the older legends are situated in the countryside, for instance: “the wild hunter” and “the calf with the glowing eyes”. Modern legends come from more civilized places. They are called Urban legends.
In the storytelling programme “Urban and rural legends” tells Marco Holmer some of those modern legends: “the lost corpse”, “the stranger and the old woman”, “the sick old man” and “the madhouse”. Part of them were written by the Dutch author Koos Meinderts.
“Hodja in Holland” is a storytelling program about the adventures of the Turkish hero Nasreddin Hodja in Holland. Marco Holmer adapted the old stories and anecdotes about the famous Hodja. Some modern urban legends were the result. In those stories the Hodja combats, as in the originals, indisjustice and prejustice with humour and astuteness.
In the program “Hodja in Holland” are the stories situated in a Dutch multicultural neighbourhood. The storyteller introduces the different characters as the story goes along. The listeners encounter the Dutch neighbour of the Hodja, the shopkeeper, the mayor, and the children playing in the park. But the public encounters most of all the extraordinary view of the Hodja on daily life.
The performance is suitable to an audience more than ten years old. It can be performed at schools, libraries, manifestations and conferences. The performance will last about 50 minutes.
“My brother is in the class of another schoolmistress. Sometimes he picks her up at her house and then they walk side by side to the school. When he sees her in the distance, he calls her: ‘Hello miss!’ When I dare to call miss Stove like that, she would push everyone aside, ran towards me. And even when it happened at the middle of the marketplace, she would give me a box on the ear. And nobody would hold her back.”
During the performance finds character Gerald Bastiaanse, teacher at the publicschool Basisschool “Jan van der Veen”, an anonymous diary, hidden, in the byciclestore. Hij is worried and reads aloud, piece by piece, the stories from the diary. With the help of the listeners, Gerald tries to reconstruct the experiences the writer of the diary went through. The anger, the fears, the hope and the powerlessness of the boy become perceptible.
“On the periphery of the wood live the little deer Kantjil. He had a great desire: To eat carrots. They grow in the garden of grandpa Kromo. Carrots are his favourite meal. However, the garden of grandpa Kromo is situated at the other side of the wood. In the forest lives the tiger Si Matjan, and Si Matjan is always hungry.”
The Program
Mirtho is bored. Her mother is only clearing away the furniture, and on the street there are just adults. No one to play with! Everything was better in the neighbourhood she lived before the removal. In this new town everything is boring …
The program
The white cuddly toy of Marc is lost. No one can find it. “When I got up, it was still there”, grumbled Marc. So everyone is glad when the Pattapouf reappears out of the washing machine. Except Marc! “A purple cuddly toy? Out of the washing machine? As cute and soft as my Pattapouf? Unbelievable!”
The Program
